Today, this movie holds up pretty good, despite the the poor character development and a non cursing Sam L. Unlike many 90s movies, it's not too pop cultural: the music is a traditional score (no Jewel - who will save your soul), the actors are ones who for the most part still work regularly today (none have died from drugs or drank themselves into oblivion), including the eccentric Jeff Goldblum. Jeff Goldblum is who got us watching this movie in the first place, and well he's the same character in every gig he gets, just his personality is dialed up or a little down.
The best things about this movie come from Stan Winston's animatronics, and Spielbergs ability to create intensely action packed, and triller like sequences all throughout the film, which are only to be topped off by Gary Rydstroms [thunderous] sounds effects. What's really right about this movie is it's concept from Michael Crichton's novel. Some of the best Fiction comes from a blend of truth, and possibility. Getting DNA from fossilized mosquito, and bridging any DNA gaps with a frog's strands, should be a good enough possibility to engage most people. After all you're watching a movie about dinosaurs with Jeff Goldblum, so you probably want to be taken away by the movie/have an imagination. But the truth is that humans will always feel superior, to us everything is for our entertainment. Whether it's a pet, going to Six Flags, or on a Safari in Africa, humans (especially Americans) think everything should bring a benefit of some type. So they can promptly take it, turn it for a profit, earn awards for it, and kill everyone in the process - without ever considering the impact of their actions. And well, I hope those humans die because of it. Yes. They deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell! Aww, see Sam L. agrees.
